Lubricant Oils FAQs
Being the best in the industry comes with the responsibility of knowing the fine details of the job. So, whatever your question, we have the answer.
We don't see many 2-Stroke Motor Cycles, Scooters or Mopeds these days, why?
While 2-Stroke engines provide an attractive Power to Weight ratio, simple in design and cheaper to build, their Fuel Efficiencies are awfully low. They are bigger culprits of polluting the environment. Hence, they are being phased out.
Do I have a crankcase oil in a 2-Stroke Motor Cycle / Scooter / Moped?
No. Since a 2-Stroke Engine employs crankcase compression, it is not feasible to have crankcase oil for such engines. Instead, the lubricant (called a 2T Oil) is introduced along with the Fuel in the form of a lube pre-mixed fuel or injecting metered lube into the fuel stream entering the engine combustion chamber.
How is a 2T Engine Oil so different than a 4T Engine Oil used for bikes / cars etc?
A 2T Oil is designed to lubricate the engine components, mix-up with the fuel completely, burn and go out in the exhaust. A 4T Oil is not designed to do so. As a result, when a 4T Oil is put into in a 2T Engine, it causes spark-plug fouling, exhaust port blockage, smoke emissions etc.
Which Engine Oil should I use in my Motorcycle / Scooter / Moped?
HP RACER 2 LOW SMOKE. It is an oil meeting API TC and JASO FC to best suit your 2T Engine.
What is the oil dosage, which has to be added to the petrol?
If your motorcycle/scooter has a separate oil tank, you have to just fill the tank with HP RACER 2 LOW SMOKE. The Oil injection system in your vehicle will take care of the right dosing. In case of a premix system, 20 ml of HP RACER 2 LOW SMOKE is to be added with every litre of petrol.
What is the frequency of change of oil for the gear box of my motorcycle/scooter?
Please refer to the recommendations given in the owner's manual as the Oil Drain Interval changes from model to model. On an average the oil should be changed every 4000 kms.
Why should not we use engine oil for diesel or petrol vehicles in my two-wheeler?
They are not designed for a 2T Engine. Hence, they will cause Spark Plug Fouling, Pre-ignition (to cause knocking), Exhaust Port/Tail Pipe blockage & would emit heavy smokes. Moreover, engine oils for other 4T Vehicles like Cars, Buses, Trucks etc., do not contain a diluent to help the oil to mix-up with petrol easily.
We have heard about some enforcement by Govt. of India for 2-stroke oils. What is it?
In order to combat the serious pollution caused by a very large number of two wheelers in the country, the Ministry of Environment and Forests vide a Gazette Notification has stipulated the minimum level of 2 stroke engine oil as JASO FC and API TC, which is a Low Smoke Oil.
What is JASO FC oil?
JASO is Japanese Automobile Standard Organization and JASO FC is a specification issued by them for 2-stroke 2-wheeler oils. Over the years, a specification issued by JASO has gained importance because of its special emphasis on controlling smoke.
Why is HP Racer 2 Low Smoke is so called. How does it help controlling pollution?
HP RACER 2 LOW SMOKE is formulated with a Synthetic Component (namely a Poly-Iso-butylene) to improve lubricity and burn clean. This has resulted in avoiding Spark plug fouling, Exhaust port/Tail Pipe Blockage, exemplary reduction in Smoke Emission, besides giving a better protection to the engine. The low smoke formula helps controlling pollution.
Which oil is recommended for the gear / transmission of my 2T motorcycle / scooter?
Generally a SAE 40 Engine oil does the job. You can use HP Laal Ghoda 20W 40/HP Gear Oil EP 90.
